Severe narrow V shaped dental arches with large anterior functional open bite. Dental crowding, gummy smile, taper facial profile can all be corrected with Controlled Arch Therapy ALONE. Just 3 set of arch wires for the whole case, as compared with traditional way it may need up to 5-7 wire sets. Less complex steps & hardware, plus no wire bending making CAT a very attractive and effective technique.
In order to facilitate a non-invasive restorations of the maxillary upper anterior teeth, Controlled Arch Therapy was called upon to open upper the vertical dimension and clinical crown inclination was corrected to allow adequate spaces for restorations without any preparation except a definite margin on the eroded palatal side.
Severe bulimic erosion causes no palatal space to restored the near pulpal exposure upper anterior teeth. Deep overbite and short vertical dimension and retruded mandible often accompanied bruxism.
This case has been stable for over 4 years with no relapse, this has demonstrated that if the etiology has been corrected, the open bite will not open up again. Most clinicians trying to use tongue cribs to control tongue thrust usually resulted in a relapse. Treat the causes not the signs & symptoms.
